Taking the Albino away from the rising tensions of the capital where the meaning of her presence was being contested, Aric sets to educate her on living as the wife Jaci’s been given to him as. Accepting that she was no more supernatural than he himself was, he still finds his pragmatic nature challenged with her differences, her stories of other-worldly places, her origin. Unlike his terrace farms, the tiered temples and adobe houses, she speaks of ships that fly through the air that cannot float on water, of buildings among the stars, of things that don’t exist anywhere but in the legends of the gods.
To preserve his livelihood and the relationship he’s forming, he takes Jaci to seek out her people. Whether from among the heavens or not, he needs to learn about them so he can better get his people to accept that there were more than gods and superstition in the world … and find out just what kind of interest these strangers have in his people.
